The Food

T

It's true what they say:  the food in Italy is like none other.  Freshness and pride are key to the food that's prepared here.  Minimal ingredients are used to create dishes that are full of flavor.  As the trip began, I was determined to try everything - even the oddest of dishes - and I'm glad that I did. (I can now check Chicken Liver Pate off the list....)  Pizza and pasta are obvious choices, but the meats are also especially delicious.  Produce is so fresh-tasting that it leaves a lasting impression - especially the tomatoes and melon. Wine is abundant and before-dinner drinks - always served with a snack - were either an Aperol Spritz (a regional cocktail) or Prosecco.  Cappuccinos are only for breakfast while espressos accompany evening desserts.  The gelato deserves all of the hype and shops proudly display the ingredients along with the flavors.  In Italy, dining is an event where you are to take your time to enjoy the food, wine, ambiance, and conversation.  La dolce vita at its finest!
